What can it reach?

The files and applications you point it at. Reading, writing, running a command, driving Illustrator or Rhino, taking a screenshot — each of those asks you first.

Can I stop it mid-task?

Yes. A running job can be interrupted, and any single step can be refused when it asks.

Does my work leave the machine?

Files stay where they are. What you bring into a chat is kept with your account so the work carries on where you left it.
