When your computer is not connected
What the app does without Bench, and how to get it back.
The chat keeps working; the hands stop
Without Bench connected you can still talk, plan, look at your collection and read what came before. What stops is anything that has to happen in your own software: modelling, layout, opening your files.

Check it is running
Bench has no tray icon. While it runs, a console window is open and writes a line every ten minutes even when nothing is pending. If that window is not there, Bench is not running: closing it stops Bench, and it starts again when you sign in to Windows.

Check the pairing
Settings, Your computer: your machine should be under Connected computers. If it is missing, or you pressed Disconnect there, pair it again with a new code. A computer disconnected from the app does not come back on its own.

Give it a minute
Bench reports in every 15 seconds. The app shows “this computer is on” within about 45 seconds of it starting, and “this computer is off” 45 seconds after it last heard from it. After a dropped connection Bench retries, first after 30 seconds and then at longer intervals up to ten minutes.

Does a job survive a disconnection?
The thinking does — it runs on the server. The step that needed your machine waits and resumes when Bench is back.
Will it work over a VPN?
Yes. Bench reaches out to DuoHand; nothing has to reach in to your machine.
I turned the computer off. Did I lose the pairing?
No. Bench starts again when you sign in and reconnects by itself.
